The new Pac Rim Champs

PACIFIC RIM CHAMPIONSHIPS, the first international Opti regatta in was conducted by Sail Melbourne and held at Mornington YC between December 27th and January 3rd with competitors representing , , , Hong Kong, and our Tasman neighbor .

 

 

 

 

 

 

47 kids, many of them first time regatta entrants in the novices ‘Green Fleet’ had an absolute ball in sometimes light and trying conditions.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The overall winner of the Pacific Rim & Open International Optimist Regatta contested by 27 optimistic kids was 12 year-old Harald Faste of Norway, Singaporeans Ko Chuan Yang, Peter Wong Vinn Lian and Mark Wong Vinn Howe filled the next three places ahead of Western Australian Matthew Wearn in fifth place, Jakob Klitte of Sweden was 6th, Jack Collinson of New Zealand 7th ahead of ‘Top Girl’ Milly Bennett of RPAYC. OziOpti was proud to have prepared the first seven placed boats and report no damage or breakages across the 20 plus boats it supplied for the regatta.

 

 

 

 

 

 

OziOpti would also like to warmly thank Sail Melbourne (one of only 5 Grade 1 ISAF events worldwide) for entrusting this important role, Mornington YC for its normal friendly welcome to OziOpti and all competitors, especially those who travelled from overseas and interstate, and excellent race management, VIODA for its continued support and rapid growth.
